Drama Drama (the pop group I coach and arrange for) is back in the studio today recording a new single to celebrate their article in J14 magazine, and the release of their very first music video! ("Saturday Night" - check it out!). Now, that's my idea of a celebration. So proud of these ladies and what they have - and will! - accomplish.
Today was a big one, folks! I appeared on "Sidebar with John Duran" (on Channel Q Radio) - which is broadcast live in 25 cities - with my original TrueVoice client, Sonja Brenna, to talk about the need for transgender visibility and audibility, and what I'm doing to help the trans* community speak for themselves. You can take a listen to the show HERE!
I'm beside myself, I'm so happy. This past weekend I was honored to bring my vocal development program for the trans and non-binary community to Iowa City, Iowa at the invitation of One Iowa (a statewide rights & visibility organization; check them out, they are fantastic!). Getting this work on the ground outside the metropolitan privilege of Los Angeles has been a goal of mine since I started, and the success of it in Iowa gives me great hope for reaching even more people in need.
And to make things even MORE exciting, I am bringing TrueVoice workshops back to their original home, the LA LGBT Center's Trans*Lounge throughout the rest of the year.
So much fun to spend the afternoon in the studio with Chrissy Carpenter and Judyth Brooke on their chat show, "Females Unfiltered!" We had a drink, we got silly, but mostly we talked about my program for the trans* community, TrueVoice Vocal Development and what being an ally to the trans* community means as trans* visibility rises in a growingly harsh environment. Can't wait to be back, these ladies are amazing.
I created original music for the adaptation of "The Seagull" by Frankie Kraft and performed it at Celebration Theatre in Hollywood, alongside a cast of incredible artists and musicians. What a fantastic experience! Now to record my single, "Criminal." Watch for it!
I was recently featured by Cinterra Entertainment as their Recommended Vocal Coach in their most recent newsletter. It's an honor to be recognized by such a powerhouse Management Firm and I'm looking forward to working with their client base! www.cinterrapics.com
On his vacation to Los Angeles from Yokohama, Ryo made time to practice his craft and booked a session with me to work on his English language performance and pop style. It was a fantastic session, and I look forward to hosting him again on his next trip to LA! This guy really knows how to make the most out of a vacation.
Tonight is the third session of the new Trans*Masculine cycle of TrueVoice at the LA LGBT Center, and I am so excited. I can't believe we're already halfway through! This class is so dedicated and ready to work. Working with students like this makes me feel like I'm a resource for their journey, I'm not dragging them along on mine, and that, my friends, is a truly great feeling.
Well folks, I'm adding "published columnist" to the list of hyphenates after my name. The September issue of QP Mag featured its first ever music column, and it was written by yours truly. "Cue Music: by Ryland Shelton" this month is all about new releases that keep summer hot right to the end. I will be back with a new column next month, I can't wait to share it with you.
